 HUMAN RESOURCE CONSULTANT 4

This on-call position serves as the senior human resource expert responsible for administering the agency program for compliance, administration, guidance, and resolution of reasonable accommodation issues under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD).

Duties

Our Human Resource Consultant 4, 

Provides reasonable accommodation consultation:
  • Provides expert, professional advice to management and employees on reasonable accommodation issues. 
  • Proactively advises and consults with WDFW management, various health care professionals and HR peers to identify need for or changes in accommodation, to assess reasonableness of the accommodation, and to obtain required medical information. 
  • Provides advice and counsel on implementation of agreed upon accommodations to applicant/employee and manager. 
  • Negotiates reasonable accommodations with management and employees consistent with business need. 
  • Consults with other HR staff on accommodation issues affecting employee performance 
  • Responds to HR requests for accommodation information requests.

Provides reasonable accommodation program administration:
  • Reviews medical requests to access accommodation options. 
  • Provides written correspondence to medical professionals to obtain additional medical/limitations information.
  • Reviews medical requests to access accommodation options.

  • Drafts involuntary medical employment actions on behalf of Assistant Directors and agency Director. 
  • Suggests and arranges for independent medical evaluations when additional medical information is required, or a second opinion is needed to determine appropriate accommodations.

WORKING CONDITIONS:
Work Setting, including hazards:
  • Work is performed in an office environment. 
  • May be subject to noisy/loud career events. 
Schedule:
  • On-call, up to eight (8) hours per week. 
Travel Requirements:
  • Statewide and overnight travel may be required for training and agency events. 
Tools and Equipment:
  • General office equipment and technology. 
Customer Interactions:
  • Daily interaction with customers. 

Qualifications
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Closely related qualifying experience may be substituted for the required education on a year-by-year basis.
  • A Bachelor’s degree with focus on business, human resources, social or organizational behavioral sciences, or related field
AND
  • Three (3) years of broad-based professional human resource experience, including facilitating organizational development or change, and advising and consulting on human resource issues. 
OR 
  • Equivalent education/experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Two (2) years or more of professional level experience in interpreting and applying reasonable accommodations in accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ACT) and Washington Law Against Discrimination (WLAD). 
  • Four (4) or more years of professional level experience in broad-based Human Resources function with two (2) years’ experience in Employee Relations consulting and problem resolution. 
  • One year of project management experience that demonstrates the ability to achieve desired outcomes through 
  • effective organization and prioritization of work and in coordination with multiple stakeholders.
  • Current Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification.
  • Proficiency in Washington State's online recruiting system.

CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT:
