Graduate Service Appointment – EWU Recovery Support
Graduate Assistant, under the close supervision of staff or faculty, may perform duties to support university, program or college. At the discretion of the assigned staff or faculty, duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Providing general assistance to faculty.
- Providing support for programs, events or projects on behalf of university.
- Providing web page management.
- Providing training.
- Preparing and developing reports
- Writing, editing, and releasing communications to faculty, staff, students, prospective students, community organizations, etc.
- Regularly checking university email account and timely responding to messages from supervisor
- Performing other related duties as assigned or required.
This position is for Counseling and Wellness and will report to Michael McClung, mental health counselor.
This position Is open to students who are in a graduate program at EWU. Work will be in-person and the successful candidate will work approximately 20 hours per week and work may include evening and weekend work.
Preferred Qualifications:
· Lived experience with addiction or recovery, either personal or that of a family member/ loved one
· Knowledge/experience with addiction and recovery
· Interest in the field of health services/promotion, and/or specifically alcohol and other drug treatment.
The Collegiate Recovery Support GSA will:
· Oversee implementation of Collegiate Recovery Support programming.
· Co-create the action plan with project PIs.
· Maintain EWU campus action plan designated projects, schedules, timelines.
· Maintain student, parent, faculty, and staff contact listing for EWU Recovery Support marketing and recruitment purposes.
· Assist in creating and dispersing marketing and promotional materials.
· Actively work to identify and engage students interested in recovery support.
· Maintain communication with the Counseling and Wellness Services department as well as any volunteers or undergraduate student workers.
· Participate in professional development opportunities and training.
· Attend and participate in monthly virtual learning community meetings with regional colleges/universities.
· Complete community asset mapping.
· Complete campus asset mapping.
· Assist in coordination of weekly/daily “all recovery” meetings (in person and/or virtual), regular sober social events, group study sessions, peer support education sessions, and participation in EWU events/activities, etc. with students in the recovery.
· Co-coordinate EWU Eagles for Recovery Scholarship application committee including committee meeting schedule and notes, marketing and recruitment of scholarship applicants, the online student application process, the application review and rubric scoring, the scholarship award process, and cross-departmental communication (Financial Aid Dept, CWS management team, Housing and Residence Life, etc.) throughout the scholarship award process.
· Ensure volunteers, and student workers, are fulfilling their roles, and the program is successfully serving students in recovery.
· Use EWU website and social media platforms to spread awareness to EWU Community.
· Help create a EWU webpage for the purposes of engaging students interested in recovery and getting information out.
· Design and facilitate presentations regarding recovery, treatment, prevention, and harm reduction.
· Strategic, targeted recovery support outreach including designing/facilitating presentations in campus classes and tabling/forums.
· Schedule and coordinate an informal recovery support group.
· Resource and system navigation.
· Collaborate with campus stakeholders to identify and address gaps in student needs.
· Participate in monthly report writing of project activities.
