The Department of Natural Resources (DNR) Habitat Conservation and Scientific Consultation Group is seeking a lead technician to join a team that conducts research and monitoring on Washington’s Olympic Peninsula. You will be the lead technician responsible for field sampling while directing the efforts of less experienced technicians. You will also be assisting in the development and training of sampling protocols for research conducted on the Olympic Experimental State Forest (OESF).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Creating and maintaining field schedules to ensure all field activities are completed during the field season.
  • Leading field teams and collecting field data in the OESF
  • Maintaining consistency in data collection.
  • Resolving problems with research techniques and field equipment.
  • Entering and proofing data.
  • Assisting with simple data analysis and data compilations.

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Knowledge of salmon identification and natural habitats.
  • Knowledge of field sampling techniques for fish, stream habitat, and forest vegetation.
  • Experience with recording and compiling research data and experience summarizing and reporting such data.
  • Graduation from high school or GED, including 1 year of high school science AND 4 years as a Science Technician, OR
    High school diploma/GED including 1 year of high school science AND 4 years of laboratory or field experience as an assistant to a health or safety professional, biologist, chemist, or zoologist.
