Are you interested in a career that allows you to serve local communities by reducing wildfire risk and promoting healthy forests? The Washington State Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is looking for a Grants Planner (Management Analyst 4). This position will be key in the creation of grant processes as well as, supporting and offering guidance to DNR staff and program managers. Similarly, it will be developing grant guidance and monitoring compliance for federal and state grants within the Wildland Fire Division.

DNR’s grant programs provide financial assistance to:

  • Local fire districts – Providing both equipment and operational funding.
  • Communities throughout Washington State – Increasing the health of our state's forests and preparing for and reducing wildland fire risks.
  • Land Owners – Grants to increase forest health and decrease wildland fire risks.

To be successful in this position you not only need an understanding of federal and state grants, but you’ll need to be a great collaborator. This position will work throughout the Wildland Fire Management Division and agency to help track, develop, and plan DNR’s grant programs.

The position will supervise the Grants and Contracts Coordinator (Grants and Contracts Lead).

Responsibilities:
 Primary duties of this position include:

  • Will be the senior grant consultant and analyst for the Wildland Fire Management Division.
  • Develop, and oversee the development of, grant planning, grant guidance, applications and agreements, grant documentation, and grant processes and procedures.
  • Will develop and monitor grant budgets and will provide long-term grant planning analysis.
  • Supports and/or coordinates grant application process and pre-application announcement, including resolving issues, for assigned grant programs so that potential applicants are well informed, final awards are as equitable and as widespread as possible, and grant spending can begin in a minimal amount of time.
  • Provides applicants, recipients, and project managers with administrative assistance and direction in the interpretation of grant agreements and guidelines, state and federal statutes and rules, WFMD and Agency policies and procedures, as well as audit requirements and grantee relationships.
  • Be collaborative, think creatively, and support teammates.
  • Supervises a Grants and Contracts Coordinator.

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Administration, Business Administration, Accounting, Law, or other equivalent degrees. Work experience above and beyond the other required experience may substitute for some or all of the educational requirements.
  • Four or more years of experience coordinating or managing federal grants, or applicable experience.
