The College of Engineering is seeking a Financial Planning Manager. This is a full-time (1.00 FTE ), 12-month, professional faculty position.

 

Under the direct supervision of the Dean, and working closely with the Senior Associate Dean (SAD ), the Financial Planning Manager is responsible for administration and oversight of the College’s financial operations and financial strategic planning. This position oversees operational and programmatic budgets as well as complex financial transactions in all units of the college, including monitoring balances, providing budget projections, gathering and analyzing data, creating reports and completing the annual budget processes. The Financial Planning Manager forecasts and advises the Dean, SAD and other college leadership on the budgetary impacts of programmatic and other changes. The position holder conducts revenue modeling and projections based on tuition, grants, fundraising, and other revenue sources. Accurately fulfilling the myriad data requests for the college are the primary responsibility of the position holder.

Key Responsibilities

 

Active support and advancement of University and College diversity, community, equity and inclusivity are fundamentally embedded into all the Financial Planning Manager activities, both as a responsibility and an expectation.

 

30% – Financial Projections and Strategy

 

• Forecasting: Assess the significance of budget allocation and expenditure trends and variances compared to budget, identifying those that may adversely impact the financial integrity of the College. Recommend and implement budget reallocation based on identified patterns or forecasts. Develop long-term projections based on different scenarios to aid the Dean, SAD , and College leadership decision making.

• Strategic Advice: provide strategic advice to the Dean, SAD , and CoE leadership on budgets and finances in developing and implementing strategies and financial processes.

 

30% – Financial Analysis

 

• Budget Work: prepare an initial budget for CoE: Generate financial statements and budget variance reports requiring detailed record research, revenue, and expenditure forecasting and statistical analysis. Provide current and historical budget data; prepare and consolidate budget worksheets. Design and complete budget analyses and financial reports that clearly communicate complex financial information for College leadership.

• Analyses: Perform studies and analyses as needed to research trends or resolve issues. Analyze financial and transactional data and trends, and recommend action to secure financial stability and sustainability of the college.

• College Representation: Assist the Dean and leadership team in representing the college and providing liaison on administrative matters dealing with budgets, fiscal policies, grants and contracts in discussions with administrative and financial officers at the University level.

• Foundation Funds: Oversight of foundation funds including managing stewardship reports of fund usage, generating cash balance reports, and foundation accounts.

 

30% – Data Gathering and Analysis

 

• Identify and develop strategies to gather data while working with support staff. This includes, but is not limited to updating Key Performance Indices; completing critical surveys such as US News and ASEE ; post-award research tracking of expenditures and award data.

 

10% – Other Duties as Assigned

 

What You Will Need

 

• Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field

• 5 years of finance/accounting experience in a university, government, or corporate setting.

• Experience in the design and maintenance of financial dashboards and other reporting tools.

• Expertise in utilizing spreadsheets, financial analysis tools, and integrated database applications.

• Willingness and ability to learn new software programs.

• Excellent written and oral communication skills that can be adapted to serve varied constituent groups.

• Demonstrated experience in financial forecasting and accounting in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.

• Demonstrated ability to work independently and resolve problems.

• Ability to work in a team setting as a leader for a responsive and diverse set of professionals.

• Excellent interpersonal communication skills and ability to work in a team environment

• Experience maintaining accurate confidential records.

• Demonstrated ability to manage numerous projects simultaneously.

• Commitment to fostering and inclusive and collaborative working environment for faculty, staff, and students.

 

This position is designated as a critical or security-sensitive position; therefore, the incumbent must successfully complete a criminal history check and be determined to be position qualified as per University Standard: 05-010 et seq. Incumbents are required to self-report convictions and those in youth programs may have additional criminal history checks every 24 months.

 

What We Would Like You to Have


 

• Master’s degree in business, finance, accounting, or related field.

• Demonstrated success providing strategic planning support for a medium to large organization

• Experience providing financial modeling support and consulting on business performance.

• Previous experience working in higher education.

• Experience using Banner, Data Warehouse, Access, Salesforce and internal Oregon State University systems such as CORE .

 

Working Conditions / Work Schedule

 

• This is an on-campus position with opportunities to work with the supervisor to identify select remote work opportunities as needed.

• Aggressive deadlines may require select periods of time in which this position works outside and in excess of typical work hours.
