CAAR Office Aide (Work-Study)
The Center of Academic Advising and Retention (CAAR) is hiring one (1) Office Aide to assist with reception duties and managing academic advising appointments. CAAR is a lynchpin for the University; you perhaps stopped by at some point to meet with an academic advisor to plan out classes – at one time or another, everyone does!
What you may not have noticed is we have a coffee machine to use and snacks to munch while on shift answering student questions and creating advising appointments. Did we mention standing desks? Our front desk staff have (without question) the nicest desks in the department.

Duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Scheduling academic advising appointments.
- Answering telephones and emails.
- Providing reception services and greeting guests.
- Data entry.
- Assisting with general department errands and attending and assisting with events.
- Performing other related duties as assigned or required.
This position will report to the Operations Manager within CAAR.
This position is budgeted to allow a maximum of 12 per week (not to exceed 19 per week during the academic year). Working hours are typically between 8 am to 5 pm Monday through Friday based on availability.
NOTE: Employment with increased hours (20-40) may be available during EWU academic breaks (Winter break, Spring break, and Summer break).
Required Qualifications:
Applicants must have a demonstrated professional demeanor and the ability to effectively communicate with a diverse population via phone, in-person, or electronic communications.
Applicants must have experience with or willingness to learn Word Processing and Spreadsheet software (Microsoft Word, Google Sheets, etc.)
Applicants must have good computer skills with the ability to type or keyboard, perform data entry, and prepare documents.
Applicants must be able to file documents both physically and electronically.
Applicants must be reliable, responsive, willing to take direction and follow guidance.
Successful applicants must complete training on FERPA, DEI, Hazing, and Title IX
Applicants must be detail oriented and able to enter data and prepare documents with accuracy.
Applicants must work both independently and in a collaborative group setting.
Applicants must be able to work with others at all levels, have a professional demeanor, excellent interpersonal skills, strong oral and written communication skills, and emotional intelligence.
Applicants must be able to manage conflict, collaborate and work effectively both independently and as a member of a team.
Preferred Qualifications:
A minimum GPA of 2.0.
